Cool Name?

I have a conference call on Friday with a guy from Macedonia called Darko. Is that a great name or what?

Happy Moving Day

Rant 18 - Repeat

OK, I am not going to repeat the whole you-rye-nahl and man-date-ory thing but I was watching a nature documentary about mammals yesterday and David Attenborough actually said umm-buh-LYE-cul cord. The baby is attached to the mother by the umm-buh-LYE-cul. I , umm, aahhh, errrr.....

Blogger administration note: Christine will not be posting further messages today as unfortunately, but understandably, her brain exploded at the sheer stupidity and absurdity of that pronounciation and its broadcast. We at Blogger wish Christine well with her recovery and hope that the drycleaners will be able to take care of all the nasty stains.

How Dumb Do You Have To Be To Be Considered Dumb?

I am sure Angela will be able to give a more entertaining version of events once she has calmed down but the poor thing is in exile in the office due to the fact that her pretty but stupid dog got sprayed by a skunk for the THIRD time. One would think he would learn after all the suffering it entails each time he gets sprayed but no.

This one sounds particularly nice as to quote Angela directly - "He got it right in the face, again, so there was vomiting and grossness from both of us since he was on the leash at the time."

Angela has advised me that none of the old wives tale or internet remedies work so don't bother suggesting fixes. Just give her sympathy and try not to laugh like I am.

Copenhagen

I have finally gotten off my lazy bum and downloaded my pictures from Copenhagen. Here are a few.

This is a lovely skating rink in the middle of town.

This was a park near a castle that I should know the name of. I would post a picture fo the castle but I can't figure out how to rotate the pictures so it is not on its side! Someday.

This is Nyhaven - New Habour even though it is the oldest one?

This is Madde in Nyhaven.

Ass to Elbow

It was quite chilly in Copenhagen this weekend – there was a nasty wind. While Madde and I were at dinner on Friday night, a guy walked into the restaurant tucked up in his parka and started talking to his friends about how cold it was outside. I, of course, understood none if it as my Danish is limited to ‘thank you’ and ‘I’m sorry’ but Madde started to laugh. She then told me that the Danes love to swear and that what this guy said translated to – 'It is ass cold outside, man'. Well, I say a new temperature descriptor has been born.

So, please let me know on a scale of ass to elbow, how cold it is where you are.

My Boys

Greetings from somewhat sunny and kinda cold Denmark. I have been having a lovely weekend taking in the sights and sounds of Copenhagen with Madde. It is very sad but I am most excited to share with you the fact that I can now proudly claim to have watched my boys in three different countries. Have you guessed? Before going to bed last night, I watched Trailer Park Boys with Danish subtitles. How crazy would it have been if it had been dubbed!

Just Do It

The weather over here has been unusually cold but sunny and clear this winter so I can’t really complain about the usually winter blahs. But it is still winter and as it gets dark so early and everything here closes early, most nights evenings are spent indoors. Yesterday, after I left work, I just couldn’t bring myself to go home and sit in front of the TV for another night. So, I went to Oxford Street and browsed around Borders and HMV, picked up a few DVD’s and then went to Bodeans for dinner. I had a pulled pork sandwich and a bottle of Moosehead and sat for a while reading my book. I then walked to Leicester Square to see what movies were on and at the last minute decided to go see a play. I got a half price ticket, my seat was 5th row from the stage, for The Glass Menagerie starring Jessica Lange. It was excellent and all in all made for a great evening. So, I have decided that if I want to do something I am just gonna do it.

I Know It's Not Thanksgiving

but for some reason I thought of this today and it made me laugh out loud. Hope it gives you a laugh too. If you are old enough to remember it, that is.

“It's a helicopter, and it's coming this way. It's flying something behind it, I can't quite make it out, it's a large banner and it says, uh - Happy... Thaaaaanksss... giving! ... From ... W ... K ... R... P!! No parachutes yet. Can't be skydivers... I can't tell just yet what they are, but - Oh my God, Johnny, they're turkeys!! Johnny, can you get this? Oh, they're plunging to the earth right in front of our eyes! One just went through the windshield of a parked car! Oh, the humanity! The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement! Not since the Hindenberg tragedy has there been anything like this!”

Happy Groundhog Day

Let’s hope no shadows are seen so that Spring comes as early as possible. C'mon Willie. C'mon Phil.

Catrin and I went to a local pub and saw a few bands play last night. A friend of a friend was in the last one. We got all excited to see a celebrity there. It is not exactly a Brangelina class spotting - Peter Davison who played Tristan on All Creatures Great and Small and was in Dr Who ages ago. But hey, gotta start somewhere right?
