I called one today and told the lady I wanted to close my telephone account as I am moving house. She asked why so I said because I am moving, I do not have my new number and if I choose to use you again, I will not want the same service (some fo the costs are so Sal can phone her family cheap and some are for me). So she said, you do not have to close the account, we will just switch it over to your new number and you can have the same service at your new number. So I repeated that I do not want the same service at the number I do not know which has not been connected. She then said ok, I have to transfer you to a different department. Hold music, hold music, man I used to like Jamie Cullum. A guy came on the phone said he is the supervisor of the same department and asked why I want to close my account! Deep breath, extremely loud sigh, whole department staring at me, bite tongue and say I already told the lady why. Then I explained it all again. He then started to tell me what service I have (good thing because I was not sure after telling them 3 times already) so I once again said I don’t want that service at which point told me if I reconnect I will get the same service £3 cheaper. So now he is making my argument for me??? I said there, see, it is good for me to close the account. He then started asking me what type the unknown number which is not installed yet will be. Please close my account I said very slowly in a very quiet barely contained voice that obviously let him know I know where he lives and am willing to get on the next plane to Mumbai to visit.

Tomorrow I have to phone Richmond Council and deal with a civil servant!

Just had a meeting with a guy named Bjoern. Throughout the whole meeting a soundtrack of Abba songs scrolled through my head. I had this irresistible urge to ask him where Benny and the girls were. Good thing I didn’t though as it turns out he is Dutch!
